About the artist

After winning the unanimously 1st Prize in the XII Edition of the “Torneo Internazionale di Musica” (Rome, 2006), and also the unanimously 1st Prize in the 32nd “Harp in the 20th and 21st centuries - Premio V. Bucchi” International Competition in 2009, Cristina Montes Mateo becomes one of the most well-known international harpists actually. She was born in Seville (Dec 1984), and began studying the harp with M.Diego. Later, she went to London to complete her studies, and was also a member of the Orchester-Akademie at the Staatskapelle in Berlin, under the direction of Maestro Barenboim.

Also winner of the 1st Prize in the 60th “Jeunesses Musicales” Competition (2003), “Victor Salvi” Special Prize (2001), 3rd Prize in the 5th “Arpista Ludovico” International Competition (2005), 2nd Prize in the “XIX International Nippon Harp Contest” (Tokyo, 2007), and 3rd Prize and Prize to the best performance in the renowned 7ème Concours International de Harpe “Lily Laskine” (Paris, 2011). She follows an intensive career with great success around Europe, USA, Japan and South America, in major festivals like “Les Flâneries Musicales de Reims” or the “7th International Harp Festival” in Rio de Janeiro. She also works frequently with conductors Sir Colin Davis, Z.Mehta, V.Gergiev, R.Chailly, P.Boulez and B.Haitink.

Solo Harp at the Orquesta de Valencia (2007-08), and nowadays, she is the Harpist of the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana at the Palau de Les Arts Reina Sofía, an orchestra created by Lorin Maazel.
